THAM HIN, Thailand -- Teachers in a Karen refugee camp review curriculum they have developed in recent months. The Karen are an ethnic minority in Burma; many have fled the country's civil strife. Some 15 Karen camps now line the Burmese border in Thailand.

This spring a group of 34 teachers, themselves Karen refugees, participated in workshops led by Mennonite Central Committee volunteers Jim and Mavis Olesen, of Regina, Sask. Participants are now able to train others to teach the more than 3,000 children living in their camp.

Topics covered in the workshops included curriculum development, evaluation and teaching children with special needs.
