Timothy M. O'Brien of Denver, Colorado, Chosen To Head Up National Child and Animal Protection Non-Profit

The American Humane Association announced today that Timothy M. O'Brien has been appointed President of the national child and animal protection non-profit. A member of AHA's Board for 6 years and serving as interim President of the organization since October, O'Brien was named to the position by the AHA Board of Directors during a meeting this past weekend. O'Brien replaces Robert Hart, who served as President until October, 1999.

"Since 1877, the American Humane Association has been the national leader in protecting children and animals from abuse, cruelty and neglect," said Judith Ellis, Chairman of AHA's Board of Directors. "This past October, the Board of Directors decided that it was time for a change in direction for leadership of AHA, and this past weekend's action is the final step in that process. We are very pleased that Tim O'Brien has agreed to lead the organization into the new century. The Board of Directors is excited about Tim's plans for AHA, and we look forward to increasing our services to the children and animals of America."

"The American Humane Association's unique mission is to protect the most vulnerable members of our society: children and animals," said O'Brien. "As a member of AHA's Board for the past six years, I've gained some valuable insights into how the organization operates, and what we can do to help even more children and animals. I am honored to accept the role of President of this prestigious organization."

Timothy M. O'Brien, Denver, CO, joined AHA's Board of Directors in 1994 and has been actively involved with the organization. He comes to AHA after running his own fiduciary-management review practice. O'Brien also worked at William M. Mercer Investment Consulting, Inc. in Denver from 1995-1999. He also served as Colorado State Auditor from 1984 to 1995. Before then, O'Brien worked in public accounting and auditing for eight years. O'Brien is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He has an MBA from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago. O'Brien's appointment as President takes effect immediately.
