The Huntington's Disease Society of America Announces Gift of Hope Holiday Campaign

New York, NY, November 8, 2001 – The Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) is pleased to announce its new holiday campaign, the Gift of Hope. The HDSA Gift of Hope is a special holiday keepsake, exclusively designed and donated by the Christopher Radko Company, that commemorates HDSA's commitment to finding a cure for Huntington's Disease (HD). The design of the frosty snowman ornament symbolizes HDSA's hope for a future free from HD.

"We are so excited that the Christopher Radko Company has presented us with such a wonderful gift for this special holiday season," states Barbara Boyle, National Executive Director/CEO, HDSA. "This one-of-a-kind holiday memento represents life and hope for the future, while it also helps us remember those who have gone before us." Participating in this holiday campaign is a great way to pay tribute to a loved one while making a vital contribution to HD research. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Gift of Hope holiday campaign will directly benefit HDSA-sponsored research projects.

Over the past four years alone, HDSA has dedicated more than $10 million to Huntington's Disease research. Although this is a substantial amount, there is still no effective treatment or cure for this devastating illness. In order to fulfill their promise to alleviate the suffering of people directly affected by this disease and their families, HDSA has set a goal to raise $25 million within the next five years. This goal can only be reached through continued support of HDSA services and programs. "The HDSA Gift of Hope is a wonderful gift-giving idea during the holiday season. While giving a gift to a loved-one you are also giving a gift to the thousands of people who suffer from this devastating disease," says Meredith Patterson, star of Broadway's 42nd Street and living at-risk for HD.

Huntington's Disease is an inherited, degenerative brain disorder that results in the progressive loss of control of both the mind and the body. Each child of an affected parent has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. Presently, there is no effective treatment or cure for this deadly illness that affects 30,000 Americans and places another 200,000 at-risk.
