Fact Sheet

Why is Gladney selling its campus?

The property was not listed for sale; the school district approached the Center with an offer. After careful consideration, the board of directors decided moving to a new campus would better serve the Center's families because of the changing nature of the adoption process and the high cost for maintaining the current facility.

When will the sale take place?

The Center will be sold in phases over a two-and-one-half year period. A few buildings will be released in September 1999, followed by a few more in the year 2000. More will be released in the year 2001 with remaining facilities to follow shortly after.

Will Gladney still house birth mothers on campus?

Yes, a dormitory will be built to accommodate today's birth mothers.

Will the Gladney Center remain in Fort Worth?

Yes.

Will Gladney be reducing the size of its staff?

No. There are approximately 90 employees including all regional offices, none of which will be affected by the move.

How will the past supporters and contributors be recognized in the new facility?

Plans are underway for a new visitor's center and archives to memorialize past donors and contributors and to provide a place for families to visit.

How will the FWISD use the campus?

A new kindergarten through fifth grade Montessori school will be built for the surrounding neighborhood.

What has been the community impact the Gladney Center has made on Fort Worth?

In its 112 year history, Gladney has truly been one of the things that has made Fort Worth a great city. By placing more than 24,000 children and assisting 36,000 birth mothers in finding loving, permanent homes for their babies, Gladney has a rich heritage serving families all over the world.
