Miami Resident - Betti Lidsky Named Unsung Heroine by MitsubishiFoundation Fighting Blindness Miami-area resident and Foundation Fighting Blindness National Trustee, Betti Lidsky, a long standing crusader on behalf of the millions of Americans affected with retinal degenerative diseases, will be recognized here on March 7th as one of only four women nationwide to receive the prestigious "Unsung Heroines Award" this year from the Mitsubishi Motors USA Foundation. Lidsky - who was nominated for the award by Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen - will be honored and profiled, along with the three other award recipients, by PBS-TV's public affairs show, "To The Contrary With Bonnie Erbe" in a Capitol Hill ceremony. Because of Lidsky's award, The Foundation Fighting Blindness will receive a $5,000 grant from Mitsubishi Motors Foundation to recognize their leadership and encourage their organizations' continued successes.  "Betti's commitment to raising awareness and funding efforts to cure blinding illnesses is remarkable," remarks Ros-Lehitnen. "I've been proud to partner with her in working with 'The Foundation Fighting Blindness' to eradicate retinal degenerative diseases. Betti's work is truly commendable, and I was proud to nominate her for this award. Lidsky expressed her gratitude for the recognition. "I am truly grateful for this acknowledgement, " she said. "But I know that the recognition really belongs to the many people, who have come from all walks of life, to provide the help, guidance, and resources, that have bolstered our fight against retinal degenerative diseases. This award will greatly assist us in our efforts to ensure that someday, cures will be found, so that today's blinding diseases are a thing of the past."
