Recent House Vote Would Ban All Forms of Human Cloning

Focus on the Family praised the U.S. House of Representatives today for once again voting in favor of a ban on all human cloning, and urged the Senate to follow suit.

The House voted 241-155 for the ban, sponsored by Reps. Dave Weldon, R-Fla., and Burt Stupak, D-Mich. It's the second time in as many congressional terms that such a bill prohibiting all forms of human cloning has been approved by the House; the last time, the measure was not voted on in the Senate and therefore never became law.

"A strong majority of America's congressmen have once again taken a stand against the scientific barbarism that is human cloning," said Tom Minnery, Vice President of Focus on the Family's Public Policy Division. "Now a strong majority of our senators need to come to the same conclusion."

While Focus on the Family is encouraged by the vote in the House, Minnery urges pro-life citizens to contact their senators and urge them to affirm the House's stand by passing legislation sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Ks.

"While today's vote is a step in the right direction, it won't mean anything unless the Senate takes action. Pro-life Americans made their voices heard in November's election, and they need to make their voices heard again."
