In Partnership With Farm Aid, USA Harvest To Collect Food For Needy Families At Farm Aid 2000 Presented By Best BuyFarm Aid PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va.-For the sixth year in a row, Farm Aid and USA Harvest are encouraging Farm Aid 2000 concertgoers to bring food to the benefit concert at Nissan Pavilion on Sept. 17, for distribution to the less fortunate. USA Harvest, a national organization that collects and distributes donated food, will collect canned and boxed food donations at Farm Aid 2000 and will distribute the food to Washington, DC-area community action agencies. The Farm Aid-USA Harvest partnership began in 1995. To date, nearly one million pounds of food has been donated by people attending the annual concert. Since its founding in 1989, USA Harvest has grown into a network of tens of thousands of volunteers who have collected and distributed more than 4.7 billion pounds of food. Farm Aid 2000 Presented by Best Buy will be telecast for the third consecutive year by CMT: Country Music Television as a live eight-hour special Sunday, Sept. 17, from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. EDT. Farm Aid was founded in 1985 by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young to raise public awareness about the plight of the American family farmer and to provide assistance to those families whose livelihood depends on agriculture. In the past 15 years, Farm Aid has granted over $15 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches and service agencies in 44 states. Farm Aid granted $58,000 to farm groups active in the mid-Atlantic region to help recover from the drought of '99.
