Creator of special catalog for cancer patients honored

The American Cancer Society, the nation's leading voluntary health agency, presented its Volunteer Leadership Award to Lana Leavitt Rosenfeld of New York City. The Society presents this award in recognition of exemplary service to the American Cancer Society. The award was presented by John C. Baity, Immediate Past Chairman of the American Cancer Society at the Society's annual meeting in Anaheim, California.

In 1995, Ms. Rosenfeld came to the American Cancer Society with an idea for a special catalog that would offer items and apparel for women dealing with the effects of cancer treatment, especially breast cancer. The American Cancer Society Foundation liked the idea and offered to fund the pilot issue of "tlc." The first issue was 14 pages and an instant success. Now, it has grown to 32 pages and is printed twice a year. The items listed are reasonably priced and women can buy them and, try them on in the privacy of their own homes, and return them if they want.

Ms. Rosenfeld's award reads: "for her entrepreneurial work in launching the "tlc" catalog and expanding it over time; for pioneering the mail order delivery of specially created clothing and items for women with cancer; and for her continuing dedication as an American Cancer Society volunteer."

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.
