American Cancer Society elects new National Board membersAmerican Cancer Society New volunteer leaders come from New York, Ohio and Louisiana. The American Cancer Society, the nation's leading voluntary health agency elected four new members to its Board of Directors at the Society's Annual Meeting held at the Hilton Anaheim Hotel, in Anaheim, California. Elected to the Board by the Eastern Division was Linda Jasper of Long Island, New York. Ms. Jasper served as the Eastern Division's first president and the former Long Island Division's Chairman of the Board, as well as numerous committees and task forces. She is a self-employed contractor. Laurie Storey-Manseau was nominated by the Society's New England Division. Ms. Storey-Manseau is a founding member of the New England Division Board of Directors and, as their current Chairman of the Board, she has dedicated her efforts to the promotion of voluntarism and the advancement of the Smoke-Free New England initiative. She is the principal of a corporate marketing and public relations consulting firm. The Ohio Division chose Donald Anthony, MD. Dr. Anthony has been instrumental in developing the American Cancer Society Cancer Research Fellowship program and has served the Society at the local, Division and national levels. He is currently chairman of the Medical Committee for the Excalibur Round Table. Dr. Anthony is an associate professor at Case Western Reserve University. Elizabeth Terrell Hobgood Fontham, DrPh, has been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society since 1987 and has served in numerous leadership roles. She continues to be active in local tobacco policy and cancer assessment issues. She is the course director for Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Louisiana State University Medical Center. She was nominated by the Society's Mid-South Division. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.
