The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Oncology Drugs Advisory Committee has recommended (September 3, 1998) that the FDA approve the drug Herceptin, a biologically engineered antibody that has shown promise in treating women with advanced breast cancer. The FDA is not bound by the committee's recommendations, but usually follows them. A final decision is expected in November.

More information on the current availability of Herceptin can be obtained by calling the manufacturer, Genentech, at 888-777-4464.
