DU applauded the intention of the Bush Administration to increase funding for operation and maintenance activities on federal wildlife refuges around the country.

Dr. Alan Wentz, Group Manager for Conservation Programs said, "national wildlife refuges are relatively unknown by Americans when compared to national parks and forests, but refuges are amazingly important as habitat for wildlife Americans love, like wild ducks, geese and swans, elk and other animals that fascinate us. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the creation of America's first wildlife refuge it is good to see a recommended increase in funding. Congress has increased funding for this need over the last few years and hopefully Capitol Hill lawmakers will take this request and run with it."

Ducks Unlimited is a charter member of the Cooperative Alliance for Refuge Enhancement (CARE). CARE is a 20-organization effort to increase operations and maintenance funding on our national wildlife refuges. Other CARE members include the National Rifle Association, National Audubon Society and the Wildlife Society, among others.
