Sun Valley's 'Summer of Labs' Extends into Winter; Charity Auction to be Held December 29Delta Society Who let the dogs out? (Sun Valley, ID - November 8, 2001) A summer-long outdoor art festival featuring 35 slightly larger-than-life fiberglass Labrador Retrievers, painted and decorated by artists, school children and sponsors, will culminate December 29 in a combination Internet and live auction for the benefit of several animal-related causes. There are stories behind the dogs with names like Labation, Chocolate Lab, Sky Lab, and Labrador Dali. Pilchuck Dumpster Dog was created by renowned glass artist Catherine Rahn from remnants from her association with glass masters Dale Chihuly and William Morris at Pilchuck Glass Institute. Notable artists and celebrities such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Scott Glenn are among the participants. Proceeds go to five local and national animal-related charities. After the events of September 11 led to postponement of the original auction date, the Veterinary Medical Assistance Team (the veterinary arm of FEMA, working hard at the World Trade Center disaster site) was added to the list of charity recipients. Others include the Delta Society, Canine Companions for Independence, The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, and the Rescue Ranch Animal Sanctuary. Prior to the live auction, pre-bids and proxy bids will be accepted at the online auction site. For bidders who are unable to attend in person, proxy bidding is available.
