Casa Alianza In Honduras Celebrates Thirteen Years Of ServicesCovenant House Celebrations marking the thirteenth anniversary of the work of Casa Alianza in Honduras will come to a climax tomorrow -- Friday, 29th of September. Casa Alianza was founded in Honduras in September 1987 and since that time has expanded its services to meet the growing needs of the street youth population there. Like all Casa Alianza projects, the work of the organization in Honduras has undergone many metamorphoses over the years. A new Crisis Center, opened in March 1999, has the capacity to accept up to 80 street children. Improvements have also been made to the country's transition and group homes. Over the last year a scheme to help those youth in trouble with the law learn job skills and find a place in society has been implemented. Similarly, a program located in marginalized communities, aimed at preventing children from going onto the streets and becoming street children, has also begun. The fruits of the ever adapting work of Casa Alianza in Honduras are plentiful. Over the past five years, for example, we have reintegrated some 700 children with their families. And where that was not possible, we have helped large numbers of children begin an independent life. On Friday, with the culmination to various days of festivities, Casa Alianza Honduras will hold a press conference at 10:30 am --with the country's national director and children from Casa Alianza -- revealing statistics that document the work of the organization over the past year. In the afternoon in the gymnasium of the Crisis Center, a cultural event involving theater groups and specially invited guests will take place. Happy Birthday Honduras!
