Six Stations Team Up for Simultaneous Radio / Webcast To Raise 2,000 Child Sponsorships for Compassion InternationalCompassion International COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 12, 2000 -Six contemporary Christian radio stations from across the United States are teaming up on September 14 and 15 for a 36-hour marathon to attract 2,000 sponsors for Compassion International children living in poverty in developing countries around the world. "This simultaneous radio and Webcast is a first for Compassion. We are pleased to have the support of these stations in our effort to make a difference in the world, one child at a time," states Wess Stafford, Compassion president and CEO. Stations WJQK of Grand Rapids, Mich.; KXOJ of Tulsa, Okla.; WVFJ of Atlanta; KAEZ of Amarillo, Texas; KTLI of Wichita, Kansas; and KOFR of Lubbock, Texas, have joined together for a "friendly competition" to raise awareness of Compassion's child development efforts and to link 2000 individual sponsors with a child in need. Stafford will be available to all six stations during the marathon for interviews and live, call-in commentary. Listeners can go to www.radiocompassion.com for a live broadcast from each of the six stations. WJQK's Les Lanser spearheaded this effort. "We have found Compassion International to be a top-rated organization and one that is doing so much good for children around the world. We shared our idea for a marathon with the other stations and they were excited to participate. This is really what Christian radio is all about-linking listeners with a worthy cause and allowing them to put their faith into action." Founded in 1952, Compassion International is a Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to the long-term holistic development of children living in poverty. Working with more than 200 denominations in over 2,100 church-based projects, Compassion is reaching out to more than 350,000 children in 22 countries, including the United States.
