COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., August 9, 2000-From across the United States, members of Compassion International's Volunteer Network will gather for their 13th national meeting on August 11-13 at the Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center in St. Charles, Illinois.

"This is the largest gathering of our volunteers in our history. We're anticipating a fabulous conference," states Regina Hopewell, Compassion's Volunteer Network director. Several volunteers will be recognized for their years of service and dedication to Compassion International's child development ministry.

The weekend conference will give volunteers an opportunity to receive additional information about Compassion International and training through a variety of seminars. Bob Lenz, a popular motivational speaker to over 100,000 parents and children annually at school assemblies, will deliver the Saturday evening keynote address. Phil Keaggy, longtime Compassion supporter, will perform a concert that same evening. Keaggy, one of the world's five best guitarists according to Guitar Player magazine, has helped to link thousands of children with individual sponsors during his 20-year association with Compassion. Forefront Records' Eli will serve as worship leader for the conference.

Compassion International has nearly 1,000 members in its Volunteer Network, an organization formed 13 years ago to support Compassion's efforts to link individual sponsors with children in need around the world.

Founded in 1952, Compassion International is a Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to the long-term holistic development of children living in poverty. Working with more than 200 different denominations in over 2,100 church-based projects, Compassion is reaching out to more than 350,000 children in 22 countries, including the United States.
