Flooding In The Udon Thani Province, Thailand

On Thursday, July 20, Compassion Thailand Director Leigh Vickery reported that recent flooding in the Udon Thani Province, near Thailand's northeast border, has affected an estimated 50 families affiliated with Compassion's Udonthani Student Center (TH-639). Thankfully, there have been no reports of serious injuries or fatalities among Compassion's assisted children, their families, or staff ; although, at least seven people in the region have died as a result of the flooding.

Floodwaters caused extensive damage to local businesses and residences, and a small number of Compassion children and their families had to seek temporary housing with relatives. Over the past several days, Compassion has extended relief assistance to all 50 affected families—including food, drinking water, and medicines. Thirty-five of these families already have resumed their regular lives, but 15 families in rural Udon Thani have sustained further damages to crops and homes as a result of the city pumping excess water outside of the city. Additional relief assistance funding will be made available after a damage assessment is completed.

If the flooding in the Udon Thani Province has significantly impacted your sponsored child, you will be notified with further details. Please pray for the people in this community who have suffered loss, especially Compassion's assisted children and their families. Also praise God for the unified efforts among the Udonthani Student Center, the Udonthani Church, and local government, which are working together to assist flood victims.
