City of Hope Announces New National Board of Directors' MembersCity of Hope Executives from Kaiser, Rite Aid and Fox Television Comprise New Volunteer Leadership Three distinguished members of the health care, entertainment and food retail industries have been appointed to the board of directors of City of Hope, it was announced today by Jack Suzar, chairman of the board of directors, City of Hope. Dale Crandall, former president and chief operating officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals; Robert Miller, chairman of Rite Aid Corporation; and Bob Cook, president and chief operating officer of Twentieth Television, a unit of Fox Television and a News Corporation company, join the world-renowned research and treatment center, which was named one of the country's top centers for cancer treatment by U.S. News & World Report. "These appointments bring formidable experience to bear on our great institution, which has played a major role in improving the quality of life for patients across the country and around the world who face a diagnosis of cancer, diabetes and other serious diseases," said Suzar. "The rich public service and business experience that Dale Crandall, Robert Miller and Bob Cook bring enhance the efforts of City of Hope's leadership to fulfill our mission of treating, curing and ultimately preventing life-threatening diseases." City of Hope's Board of Directors is comprised of 22 members, spanning a range of industries that include finance and health care. Prominent Industry Members Prior to joining Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals in 1998, Dale Crandall served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of APL Ltd. and group managing partner of Price Waterhouse LLP. He is a trustee of the The Dodge & Cox Mutual Funds and serves as a director on the boards of Ansell Ltd., BEA Systems Inc., Covad Communications Group, Conventry Healthcare and UnionBanCal Corporation. Crandall holds a master's degree in finance from the University of California at Berkeley, and graduated cum laude from Claremont McKenna College. Prior to serving as chairman of Pennsylvania-based Rite Aid Corporation, Bob Miller served as vice chairman and chief operating officer of The Kroger Company. Miller joined the company when Kroger acquired Fred Meyer Inc., where he served as chief executive officer. Before joining Fred Meyer, Miller served in a variety of senior positions at Albertson's Inc. Currently, Miller serves on the boards of Rite Aid Corporation and Harrah's Entertainment Inc. A native of Louisville, Mississippi, he attended Orange Coast College and the executive management program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. A highly honored executive in television distribution and production, Bob Cook manages all facets of Twentieth Television's billion-dollar television distribution sales and program development/production business. Prior to joining Twentieth Television, he held senior management positions at CBS Enterprises, King World Productions, Columbia TriStar Television Distribution (now Sony Pictures Television) and other entertainment firms. Cook serves as vice-chairman for PROMAX, a national marketing association, chairman for the LADA Foundation for the Prevention of Crime, and as director for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation. He is also a trustee of the Buckley School. Cook graduated from Michigan State University.
