Tower Cancer Foundation and City of Hope Cancer Center Announce New AffiliationCity of Hope City of Hope Clinical Trials for Cancer Now Available on Westside of Los Angeles City of Hope Cancer Center and Tower Cancer Research Foundation yesterday announced a new affiliation that will bring more clinical trials for cancer treatment to the Westside of Los Angeles. Westside residents will now have easy access to the hundreds of cutting-edge clinical trials conducted by City of Hope, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located in the San Gabriel Valley. "Through the well-known expertise of Tower Cancer Research Foundation doctors, many of the hundreds of clinical trials underway at City of Hope will be available on the Westside," said Michael A. Friedman, President and CEO of City of Hope. "This relationship will benefit the community by bringing together leading cancer experts and giving patients access to new medications that may prevent, treat and cure cancers." Solomon Hamburg, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Board of Directors of Tower Cancer Research Foundation, said, "Some of the leading cancer research in the world is being done in Los Angeles. This exciting affiliation will expand the number of patients participating in important clinical trials. We hope it will speed the development and delivery of better cancer treatments." The announcement of the affiliation was made Sunday night at a benefit for Tower Cancer Research Foundation at the Skirball Cultural Center in Brentwood. The benefit was emceed by Brad Garrett of "Everybody Loves Raymond" and included performances by legendary entertainer Ray Charles, a 13-time Grammy® Award winner, and singers Marilyn Lovell Matz and Johnny Tillotson. Honorees included leading cancer activists Judy and David Ruderman and Abby Levy. Also honored was Stephen J. Forman, M.D., Chair of the Division of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope.
