The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) has received a generous donation of $50,000 from the University of Mississippi Sigma Nu Fraternity in honor of late football player, Chucky Mullins, who was paralyzed during a homecoming game in 1989.

Chucky Mullins later died due to the injuries.

The donation is the result of the Sigma Nu Charity Bowl XIII, an annual event dedicated to raising money for paralysis research. The game was first instituted after Chucky Mullins' injury and has since raised over $550,000. Christopher Reeve attended the event, and gave a speech during halftime, citing the "great spirit and compassion" evident at the school event. He also praised the progress of spinal cord research, as shown in the expanded budget of the National Institutes of Health in the past four years.

Mississippi Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, Sen. Trent Lott (R - Miss.), Rep. Roger Wicker (R -Miss.) and Rep. Chip Pickering (R - Miss.) were also in attendance.

A football jersey with Mullins' number and Reeve's name was given to Reeve by the 2001 Chucky Mullins Courage Award winner Kevin Thomas.
