New Board Members Named at CCFChristian Children's Fund Three Richmond area business and community leaders have been named to the Board of Directors for the Richmond-based Christian Children's Fund (CCF), one of the nation's largest and most respected international child development organizations. The new CCF board members include Richmond attorney Lewis T. Booker; college educator, administrator and author Dr. Patrick R. Liverpool; and Richmond business leader Steven A. Markel. Booker, who has served as CCF General Counsel for 27 years, is Senior Counsel at Hunton and Williams law firm and serves as a substitute district judge for the Thirteenth Judicial District. Booker has been a long-time civic leader in Richmond, having served on the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Richmond School Board, the Board of Trustees for the University of Richmond, the Commonwealth of Virginia Council on Human Rights, the Virginia Institute for Scientific Research, and the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, among others. Dr. Liverpool, a Richmond resident, is Dean of the School of Management at Delaware State University. He has also served as Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at North Carolina A & T State University, Dean of the Sydney Lewis School of Business at Virginia Union University, Vice Provost for International Programs at Virginia Tech, Dean of the School of Business at Virginia State University, among others. Dr. Liverpool's community service includes membership on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Central Virginia, the Board of Directors for the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Virginia Food Bank, among others. Markel, is vice chairman of Markel Corporation which has offices in London and Paris. In addition to sitting on the corporate boards of Markel Corporation and S&K Famous Brands, Markel is also a member of the Board of Visitors at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Board of Trustees for Collegiate School, the Board of Trustees for the Hebrew Fund for the Aged of Richmond and the Board of Directors of the Richmond Chapter of the American Heart Association. Previously, Markel has served as chairman of the Better Business Council at Virginia Commonwealth University, a member of the Board of Directors and an officer with the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, the Board of Directors of Temple Beth Ahabah and the Community Planning Committee with United Way, among others. In addition to the appointment of new board members, Richmond businessman, David R. Barrett, has been elected chairman of the CCF Board of Directors. Barrett, who has served on the CCF board since 1994, is Territory General Manager for DePuy, a Johnson & Johnson Company. Barrett has served as a member of the Advisory Board of Directors for Needle's Eye Ministries and is an Elder and Sunday school teacher with Trinity Assembly of God. As a member of the CCF Board of Directors, Barrett has worked on CCF's Finance, Program and Development committees. He has traveled extensively for CCF working with local CCF leaders to foster collaborative efforts to help needy children. Christian Children's Fund was founded in Richmond in 1938 and now serves about 2.5 million needy children in 30 countries.
