(Columbus, Ohio)--A new "employee" at the Grandview Ace Hardware in Columbus completed a number of typical store activities on his first day on the job. However, this "employee" was far from typical.

Ace President & CEO Dave Hodnik served as a retail associate for a day on Wednesday, May 2, at the Columbus store, reviewing inventory, setting up merchandise displays, managing the cash register and assisting customers in finding the products they needed.

Grandview owner Richard Vogel "won" Hodnik for a day's work in a raffle conducted April 5-9 at the Ace spring show in New Orleans. The raffle raised more than $4,000 for Children's Miracle Network (CMN).

"We were extremely pleased to have Dave Hodnik assist us in the store's operations for a day," Rick said. "We definitely put him to work with a long list of things to do. I told him he better wear a comfortable pair of shoes for the day!"

Customers got a "kick" out of the promotion as well. Rick posted a sign in his front store window for the past two weeks alerting his customers that Hodnik would be working at the store on May 2. The sign generated many comments and interest among his consumers.

The "Day with Dave" raffle is one of the many innovative methods Ace uses to gain donations for CMN. Since becoming a corporate sponsor of CMN in 1991, Ace has raised more than $20 million for the international children's charity.
