Catholic Charities Network Named as One of the Nation’s Best Charities By National Publications

The Catholic Charities network—1,640 local agencies and institutions nationwide—has been named as one of the nation's top charities by several leading publications in their annual rankings of nonprofits.

The Catholic Charities network provides a myriad of vital services in their communities, ranging from day care and counseling to food and housing. In 2000, local Catholic Charities agencies provided help and created hope for more than seven million people in need, regardless of religious, social, or economic backgrounds.

The 2000 combined revenue of the Catholic Charities network was $2.69 billion. Nearly 90 percent of these funds were spent on programs and services, making Catholic Charities one of the nation's most efficient charities. The network's expenses for 2002 were $2.58 billion.

Worth

In the second annual "Worth 100," published in Worth's December issue, Catholic Charities was recognized as one of the nation's top nonprofits that have made the biggest impact with donations that they receive.

The NonProfit Times

The Catholic Charities network was ranked 4th among the nation's nonprofits in the country by The NonProfit Times, which publishes the oldest annual ranking of charities in the country. Catholic Charities USA moved up two slots in the rankings. To be included in the "NPT 100," nonprofits must raise at least 10 percent of their total revenue from public sources, such as individual donors and foundations.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy

Catholic Charities ranked among the top 15 nonprofits in the Chronicle of Philanthropy's annual "Philanthropy 400." The network held steady in the 13th position for the second year in a row. The Chronicle bases its rankings on the amount of private support received by nonprofits. Unlike The Nonprofit Times ranking, The Chronicle's rankings do not take into account government funding or program fees.
