CARE Celebrates 56th AnniversaryCARE Organization commemorates 56 years of aid to poor communities around the world Today, the international humanitarian organization CARE marks the achievements of more than half a century of helping poor communities solve their most threatening problems. The organization is commemorating the occasion with a gala fundraiser hosted by the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. Deutshe Post World Net, one of the world's largest mail, logistics, shipping and finance companies, is the event's global sponsor. CARE supporters from around the country are participating in the event, with a series of dinners taking place at residences of various ambassadors in the D.C. area. "On this, our 56th anniversary, I want to recognize all the CARE staff and donors around the world who are working tirelessly to advance CARE's vision of a world where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security," said CARE USA president, Peter Bell. "It is your dedication and compassion that have made it possible for CARE to help countless poor families build more just and hopeful futures." CARE works with communities in 68 countries in the developing world to create a brighter, healthier future for families. In 2001, CARE directly improved the lives of more than 43 million people in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
