Innovative Screening Booth Brings National Attention To Prevention And Early Detection Of Cancer At The Democratic National ConventionCancer Research and Prevention Foundation In a successful effort to build awareness that early detection of cancer and other diseases saves lives, the Cancer Research Foundation of America, in partnership with the UCLA Department of Urology and the Watts Neighborhood Health Foundation, provided nearly 550 health screenings to attendees at the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles, August 14-17, 2000. Delegates, their spouses and convention attendees visited the innovative and non-partisan Family Health Awareness Booth, which provided complimentary mammograms, prostate specific antigen tests (PSA), blood pressure checks, bone density screenings and cholesterol checks on location. "This unique screening opportunity reminded delegates, spouses and DNC attendees of the importance of providing screening access to all people in the United States," stated Carolyn Aldigé, president and founder of the Cancer Research Foundation of America, a national nonprofit health organization based in Alexandria, Virginia. "Early detection of disease saves lives and ultimately will bring down the cost of health care." The Cancer Research Foundation of America also teamed with Pennsylvania's Fox Chase Cancer Center to bring the screening booth to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, July 30-August 3, 2000. The Family Health and Screening Booth was made possible through generous support from: AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals; Merck; Pfizer Inc.; Pharmacia Corporation; American Urological Association; CaP CURE and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
