President And Founder Of The Cancer Research Foundation Of America Receives 2000 Legacy Of Leadership AwardCancer Research and Prevention Foundation WASHINGTON, DC, May 20, 2000 – Carolyn Aldigé, president and founder of the Cancer Research Foundation of America, was presented the Howard University Hospital 2000 Legacy of Leadership Award for Distinguished Health Care Educator in recognition of her outstanding efforts in public education in advancing women's health issues through research and public policy. The Legacy of Leadership Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the mission of Howard University Hospital – "excellence in service and leadership" in the health care industry. "Carolyn Aldigé's work as president and founder of the Cancer Research Foundation of America has created a veritable bridge from outright fear to understanding and awareness of cancer prevention," said Legacy of Leadership 2000 Executive Committee Chairperson Sonja Swygert. "Her personal and programmatic efforts to reach out to the community and strengthen research initiatives have effectively bolstered the organization's mission to eradicate this disease. She is a role model for all in the fight against cancer." Carolyn Aldigé also currently serves as president of the National Coalition for Cancer Research, having been a member of its board of directors since 1996. She is affiliated with the following NCI-designated Cancer Centers: Fox Chase Cancer Center (Member, Board of Directors); UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (Member, Board of Visitors); H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (Member, Council of Scientific Advisors) and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (Member, Board of Overseers). She is a member of the governing board of the Intercultural Cancer Council.
