The Cancer Research Foundation Of America Awards Over $600,000 In Prevention Grants And FellowshipsCancer Research and Prevention Foundation WASHINGTON, DC – The Cancer Research Foundation of America (CRFA), a national nonprofit dedicated to the prevention of cancer through research and education, awards over $600,000 in prevention grants and fellowships. CRFA's Scientific Review Panel and Program Committee recommended for approval by the Board of Directors 14 grant and 4 fellowship proposals representing breast, colorectal, prostate, cervical, and skin cancers. The following institutions were awarded: Baylor College of Medicine, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Georgetown University Medical Center Lombardi Cancer Center, Montefiore Medical Center, New York University Medical Center, Oregon Health Sciences University, University of Chicago, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, University of Iowa, University of Pittsburgh, University of Utah and Wistar Institute. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to fund these grants and fellowships in cancer prevention. The research that these young investigators are doing today will bring us one step closer to solving the cancer puzzle and ridding the nation of this dreadful disease," said CRFA President and Founder Carolyn Aldigé. Since the Foundation's inception, scientific research has been one of the platforms that CRFA has chosen for its cancer prevention efforts. As a result, CRFA's Grant and Fellowship program has awarded more than 200 research grants to 160 scientific investigators at 84 academic institutions. CRFA provides seed grants to young investigators, which often enables them to apply for subsequent funding from the National Cancer Institute. The CRFA peer-review grant selection process is one of only ten non-federal programs nationwide that is approved by the National Institutes of Health. The Cancer Research Foundation of America (CRFA) was founded in 1985 by Carolyn Aldigé in memory of her father, who died of cancer the previous year. CRFA is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to cancer prevention through scientific research and education.
