President and Founder of the Cancer Research Foundation of America Receives Pioneer Award in Cancer PreventionCancer Research and Prevention Foundation WASHINGTON, DC, August 26, 1999 – Carolyn Aldigé, president and founder of the Cancer Research Foundation of America, was presented the Pioneer Award in Cancer Prevention at the national meeting on "Strategies for New Clinical Trials for Prostate Cancer Chemoprevention," sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) on August 8. The award read in part: "The research scientists seeking new concepts and approaches to lower the risks to prevent the devastation of cancer wish to acknowledge major contributions made by Carolyn Aldigé." Presenter Donald Coffey, Ph.D., professor of Urology, Oncology, Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and former president of the American Association for Cancer Research, acknowledged the major contributions Aldigé has made to the field of cancer prevention. "Carolyn Aldigé has been a pioneer in bringing national attention to the need to enhance scientific research, education and early detection in the field of cancer prevention," Coffey said. "She has been a major leader in forming the Congressional Families Action for Cancer Awareness Campaign and has worked constantly to increase funding for cancer prevention studies. We thank her for inspiring so many of us and for her leadership and support that will hasten the day that the devastating impact of cancer will be diminished," he concluded. Carolyn Aldigé also currently serves as president of the National Coalition for Cancer Research, having been a member of its board of directors since 1996. She is also affiliated with the following NCI-designated Cancer Centers: Fox Chase Cancer Center (Member, Board of Directors); UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (Member, Board of Visitors) and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (Member, Council of Scientific Advisors).
