Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Center Moves To New 'One-Stop' LocationEmory University Coming soon to a new location convenient to all of Atlanta -- the improved, expanded, and more accessible Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center, located just off I-85 and North Druid Hills Road in Executive Park South. Combining doctors and facilities from the Emory Spine Center, the Emory Sports Medicine Center, and other outpatient activities of Emory's Department of Orthopaedics, the new Center will occupy a five-story, 95,000-square-foot building with a full spectrum of orthopaedic clinics and sub-specialties. Patients will find one-stop shopping for diagnostic imaging services, including X-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy, as well as bone density testing for osteoporosis screening. All of the department's outpatient programs including comprehensive spine services, sports medicine, ambulatory surgery, pain management and physical therapy will be concentrated in the new site, along with related offerings such as a prosthetics and orthotics shop. The center will also house a number of clinical trials in which Emory physicians continue to pioneer innovative treatments for common debilitating conditions such as lower back pain. Musculoskeletal diseases and disorders represent one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, a fact the World Health Organization has recognized in naming 2000-2010 the Bone and Joint Decade. Conditions treated by orthopaedists include sports injuries, joint conditions, back pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and disorders and deformities of childhood. "The new Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center represents a new standard for orthopaedic outpatient care in this region," says James Roberson, MD, chairman of the department in the Emory University School of Medicine. "We will offer a high degree of expertise with an unprecedented degree of convenience, access and efficiency in a patient-friendly environment. We will treat the entire range of musculoskeletal disorders in persons of all ages, from children to seniors." John Fox, CEO of Emory Healthcare, says the move will make the full range of Emory orthopaedic care more accessible than ever before to thousands of commuters who travel I-85 on a daily basis, as well as to residents of DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett and surrounding counties. The new site is located about three miles from Emory's main health sciences campus on Clifton Road. "We are focused on the prospects for making life easier for our customer base - our current and prospective patients," he explains. "Along with the economies we can achieve by combining facilities from a number of different current locations, we believe we have a dramatic opportunity to reposition and rebrand Emory orthopaedics." Emory expects to receive its first patients in the new center on December 29, with services throughout the facility being phased in during January and February. A grand opening is planned for March.
