The University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center has been rated No. 5 for "Best Overall Program" in a yearly survey that ranks ophthalmology programs across the country.

The rankings, released by Ophthalmology Times in its November 15 issue, are the result of a poll of ophthalmology department chairs in the United States.

"We are pleased to be recognized by our peers as one of the top programs in the country," said Paul R. Lichter, M.D., Director of the Kellogg Eye Center and Chair of the U-M Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. "There are a number of outstanding ophthalmology programs in the United States where patient care, research, and education are highly regarded. Department chairs were asked to list their top three choices for best overall program, and to end up fifth overall is a special distinction considering the number of superb programs against which we were evaluated."

The U-M Kellogg Eye Center is a nationally recognized vision care and research center that is part of the University of Michigan Health System.

Kellogg ophthalmologists conduct over 100,000 patient visits each year, offering an exceptional range of services. Kellogg also serves as a regional referral resource, providing specialty vision care that may not be available in other communities.

The Kellogg Eye Center has a strong research program, with an annual budget of $10 million, aimed at finding new therapies and treatments for blinding eye disease.
