Mott Children’s HospitalUniversity of Michigan Health System Mott patient family to throw switch for Ann Arbor lighting ceremony on Nov. 21 On Friday, Nov. 21, the Main Street Area Association will light up the city of Ann Arbor by turning on thousands of brilliant twinkling tree lights along Main St. from William to Huron. The event, appropriately titled "Light up for Life", will benefit Food Gatherers and the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Those who attend the event are asked to bring canned food and/or a new unwrapped toy. Donations will be collected from 5 to 7 p.m. by the Food Gatherers' truck, which will be parked in front of Zydeco Restaurant at 314 S. Main St. Then, at 7 p.m., Walter and Paula Crosby, along with their two sons, will throw the tree lighting switch at Conor O'Neill's Traditional Irish Pub, 318 S. Main. The Crosby family will be lighting the trees in memory of their son, John, a Mott patient who succumbed to Adrenalcortical Carcinoma, a form of adrenal gland cancer, in 2001 at the age of eight. John's father, Walter, is also a member of the Mott Hospital Advisory Board. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available for those who attend the lighting ceremony, and there will be performances by the Huron High School choir. If you are unable to attend the event, you can still bring canned goods and/or new unwrapped toys to Seyfried Jewelers (304 S. Main St.) or Conor O'Neill's Traditional Irish Pub throughout the week of Nov. 17. For more information about the "Light up for Life" event, visit www.mainstreetannarbor.org or call (734) 668-7112.
