Faith-Based Leader Applauds President Bush And New Funding To Address The Evil Of Hunger And Poverty

Below is a statement from Bread for the World President Rev. David Beckmann concerning President Bush's announcement today at the InterAmerican Development Bank of an increase in U.S. development assistance:

"I applaud President Bush's leadership on this vital issue. The real "Axis of Evil" in today's world is the scandal of hunger and poverty. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, nearly 200 million people go to bed hungry each night, and we must do something to change this terror.

"President Bush's call to increase U.S. foreign assistance is a positive sign. It is our nation's moral duty to be as strong in the life-and-death struggle against hunger as we are in the war against terrorism."
