Healthy Children Needed for Brain StudyWashington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Healthy children between 7 and 9 years old are needed for a study on the development of language skills at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Participants will be asked to complete three visits. During the first session, which lasts about an hour, children will be evaluated by a pediatric neurologist and also will be allowed to practice lying in a brain scanner and performing the language tasks. In the second visit, which will last about two hours, children will be asked to lie still in a brain scanner and perform language tasks while researchers take pictures of their brain activity using a safe, non-invasive imaging technique called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The final session will take about an hour and includes an IQ test and further language assessment. Participants will be paid for their time and will receive a picture of their brain. Volunteers must be right-handed and native English speakers. For more information, please contact Heather Lugar, Kristin Wenger or Leslie Kirchner at (314) 362-4154.
