Humane Society Offers Reward in Greene County, Tenn. Dog ShootingsThe Humane Society of the United States The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting four dogs and dumping their bodies near a home in Greene County, Tennessee. Catherine Carter discovered the dogs on the morning of Nov. 21. The four dogs appeared to be juveniles who may have belonged to the same litter. They were about the same age and were of similar size and appearance. They had all been shot and were apparently dead when their bodies were dumped along Boyd Carter Road in the Chuckey community of Greene County. The Greene County Sheriff's Department is seeking leads in the case and they hope that the reward will encourage someone with information in the case to come forward. The Humane Society of the United States First Strike Campaign® raises public awareness and educates communities about the connection between animal cruelty and violence towards people while providing a variety of resources to law enforcement agencies, social work professionals, educators, legislators and families. The HSUS also offers rewards for animal cruelty cases across the country and works to strengthen laws against animal cruelty, to make this a safer world for people and animals alike. "We recognize that residents of Greene County don't currently have the option of bringing an unwanted pet to a county-run animal shelter, but that's no excuse for killing these dogs and leaving their bodies where anyone could find them," said Jenny Brown, program specialist in The HSUS Central States Regional Office. "Research has shown a connection between animal abuse and violence towards people. In addition, these types of acts are seldom one-time incidents. That means that until the person is caught, he or she poses a potential threat to other animals and people." Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Sheriff Mark McLain at (423) 798-1800.
