World Wide Pictures' Film, "The Climb," to Open in Theaters

"The Climb," the latest film from World Wide Pictures, the motion picture division of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, opens in theaters February 22, taking the production company to new heights -- literally.

"The Climb" is a story of two solo rock climbers, Michael Harris (Ned Vaughn) and Derrick Williams (Jason George), who are brought together when they perform a daring rescue. The man they save is the son of retail mogul Mack Leonard (Dabney Coleman) who rewards Michael and Derrick by sponsoring a trip to their dream climb at Mount Chicanagua. The two highly esteemed climbers approach the sport very differently. Michael is a safety-conscious plodder driven by the beauty of creation. His goal is to reach the summit, and take whatever precautions necessary. Derrick is a flamboyant self-promoter bent by anger. He's a risk taker and will reach his dream at any cost. A clash of pride, styles, and character put both of their lives on the line.

Other characters in the film include Derrick's girlfriend Cheryl Martin (Kyli Santiago); Cheryl's father, Mr. Joseph Martin (Clifton Davis); and friend Eddie (Todd Bridges). It is directed by John Schmidt, produced by John Shepherd, and written by Robert Pierce and Patrick Egan.

The film will open in theaters in Minneapolis, Minn.; Asheville, N.C.; Austin, Texas; and Charlotte, N.C., in February and will air on national television the week of June 3.

World Wide Pictures is a leading independent film production company keeping up with the demand for good, clean, thought-provoking entertainment. Having produced over 125 films including nine major motion pictures, they are claiming Billy Graham's passion to reach all audiences. "Early in my ministry, I recognized the fact that not everyone would respond to the Gospel as the result of personal contact through crusades," stated Dr. Graham.

Other productions by World Wide Pictures include the following award-winning titles: "Something to Sing About," "A Vow to Cherish," "The Ride," "Joni," and "The Hiding Place."

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is a nondenominational, nonprofit organization that reaches millions of people each year through Billy Graham Crusades and television broadcasts, Franklin Graham Festivals, DECISION magazine, "Hour of Decision" and "Decision Today" radio programs, the Internet, World Wide Pictures and World Wide Publications. Based in Minneapolis, Minn., the organization has 659 full-time staff worldwide.
