Bio-IT World magazine announces winners in new awards program

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received top honors at Bio-IT World, Inc.'s 2003 Best Practices Awards, held June 23 at the National Press Club in Washington D.C.

The research center was awarded in the Clinical Trials category for best protocol management. A protocol, or clinical trial, is a well-defined treatment regimen structured to answer a specific scientific question.

The St. Jude team won for building a clinical trials data collection system that can better leverage data resources and shorten the reporting process. Further, the team recognized and filled a need for a business intelligence solution to assist data managers in obtaining and using the resulting data.

Bio-IT World magazine's Best Practices Awards program is the first to recognize research and development teams within life sciences organizations for innovative uses of information technology in the life sciences.

A peer-reviewed panel of 10 expert judges reviewed more than 50 submissions from organizations ranging from large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to academic institutions, detailing best practices in three categories: clinical trials, drug manufacturing and discovery and development.
