Girls and Boys Town Children Receive Hundreds of Special Presents from NBC's Today Show Toy DriveGirls and Boys Town Christmas came early for the children at Girls and Boys Town. "The Today Show called in a favor from Santa," said Father Val Peter, Girls and Boys Town National Executive Director, to the children at Wegner Middle School on the campus of Girls and Boys Town. The children's eyes lit up as they entered the room with toys and other items stacked to the ceiling. After picking out their favorite gift, they sang "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" to show their gratitude for the gifts. Partners of the Today Show Toy Drive, including Mattel®, Lands End and Sanrio Toys sent more than 125 cases of Barbie dolls, Barbie horses, Hello Kitty toys, baseball figures and cards, clothes, shoes and many more wonderful gifts here to Girls and Boys Town's National Headquarters. "It's an overwhelming experience for our children to receive gifts, but even more overwhelming for them is to receive the love and support from those who send the gifts, especially during the Christmas season" says Father Peter. "We are very grateful to NBC and these caring companies for the kindness extended to our children." The remaining presents will be shipped to children at all our Girls and Boys Town sites in states across the country, including New York, New Jersey, California, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, New England, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Nevada and Iowa. Last year, Girls and Boys Town directly cared for more than 37,000 abused, abandoned and neglected children nationwide.
