Texas Native Olivo Appointed To Serve On Girls And Boys Town National BoardGirls and Boys Town Andrew C. Olivo, a Dallas, Texas, area attorney and civic leader has been appointed to a three-year term as a member of the Girls and Boys Town National Board of Trustees. Olivo, who serves as a member of the Carrollton City Council and is a candidate for the Texas House of Representatives, is a 1966 graduate of Boys Town High School and former president of its national alumni association. The organization, the original Father Flanagan's Boys' Home, with headquarters near Omaha, Nebraska, changed its name to Girls and Boys Town on August 24, 2000. Olivo was appointed to the National Board of Trustees at Girls and Boys Town's quarterly meeting on April 5. The Girls and Boys Town National Board of Trustees is made up of businesspeople and child-care advocates across the country. The Trustees provide oversight and advice for the nonprofit, nonsectarian organization's operations at 18 sites in 13 states and the District of Columbia, including Girls and Boys Town of San Antonio. Last year, Girls and Boys Town provided direct care and treatment to more than 37,000 girls and boys, directly assisted nearly 400,000 children and parents through the Girls and Boys Town National Hotline and indirectly assisted another 1.1 million children and families through training and outreach programs. Olivo, a native of Ysleta, Texas, is a partner in Niermann and Olivo Attorneys at Law in Carrollton. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in political science from the University of Texas-El Paso and a doctor of law from the University of Houston. Olivo has served his country and community with distinction. He joined the Army in 1973 and has served in active or reserve duty for nearly 30 years in various assignments around the globe, including Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Presently, he is a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. In addition, he serves his community as a volunteer in many youth related projects. Olivo and his wife, Linnea Lynn, have one son, Andy Carl.
