Partnership with America's Second Harvest Supports Food Banks in Nine Metro Areas

As part of its ongoing effort to fight hunger in the communities it serves, Webvan Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: WBVN), announced today that it will contribute $283,000 in groceries to food banks in the America's Second Harvest network serving nine metropolitan areas.

Through its national partnership with America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, webvan.com customers, local merchants and corporate partners are able to make online donations which are then used to purchase food and other products needed by community food banks in the markets served by Webvan. This is the second year of Webvan's partnership with America's Second Harvest.

The donations are divided among the local America's Second Harvest food banks within Webvan's service areas- Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orange County (CA), Portland (OR), Sacramento, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle. The $283,000 in contributions announced today represents donations received from customers and major corporations such as DPI Materials Handling Systems, in the first quarter of 2001.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with America's Second Harvest in the fight to end hunger in our local communities," said George T. Shaheen, chairman and CEO of Webvan Group, Inc. "In its first year, Webvan customers donated more than $1.2 million to America's Second Harvest food banks. We are delighted that so many of our customers and corporate partners have joined Webvan in this important effort. We look forward to expanding this program helping even more people in need."

"Getting food to the 31 million people in this country who face hunger is critical. America's Second Harvest is pleased to work with Webvan in procuring and delivering healthy and nutritious food to needy Americans," said Deborah Leff, President and CEO, America's Second Harvest.

Consumers and corporations can contribute to the fight against hunger by logging onto webvan.com and choosing a dollar amount of groceries they want to donate. Webvan will then work in partnership with America's Second Harvest and their local network of food banks to select and deliver the foods needed most in these communities. Webvan will match contributions from its customers at one percent in products on a quarterly basis and deliver the products to America's Second Harvest food banks.
