Road to New Orleans 2003 Motorcycle RideAmerica's Second Harvest Organizers of the Road to New Orleans 2003 Motorcycle Ride, the foodservice industry's semi-annual, cross-country motorcycle fundraiser, have announced that plans for this year's ride have progressed rapidly thanks to their new web site and incredible industry support and enthusiasm. All parties believe that the fundraising goal of $100,000 - with funds benefitting America's Second Harvest - will be reached. This year's ride will end in the "Big Easy," where riders will enjoy a festive welcome reception at the New Orleans Sheraton. The Sheraton is located in the heart of the city's French Quarter, overlooking Bourbon Street, and has offered riders a reduced hotel rate. An official fundraising flyer is available (both online and in print format) and is being sent to friends and family members to help solicit donations to help end hunger in America. This year's riders can also earn rewards for their fundraising efforts. Organizers have solicited prizes that include a European vacation, cooking utensils, and cash prizes. Also, prize t-shirts will be given to anyone who refers a rider. The Road to New Orleans 2003 Motorcycle Ride will take place from August 30 to September 1, 2003, and will raise money for America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest and most comprehensive hunger-relief network with more than 200 food banks. Last year's ride raised over $60,000 for America's Second Harvest, and this year's riders have raised the bar with a 2003 goal of $100,000. "Enthusiasm for this year's ride has been spectacular. With the addition of new fundraising tools and competition for great prizes, I do believe that we will reach our goal," said Alexa Kinney, Road to New Orleans coordinator. "The website has helped get the word out and we expect that this year's ride will be the largest yet. It is exciting to see so many people coming together for a great cause. Many corporations are taking a major role in our fundraising efforts!"
