AmeriCares sends follow-up shipment of flood relief to KentuckyAmeriCares Foundation AmeriCares has sent a second truckload of emergency supplies to Kentucky where parts of the state have been devastated by the worst flooding in 25 years. Hundreds have been forced from their homes in Pike County by the most recent surge in floodwaters. One motorist perished in the torrent. A witness reported sighting three housetrailers bobbing on the Tug Fork River. Household debris hung in the trees on the riverbanks. In the AmeriCares shipment were air mattresses, clothing, waterproof footwear, work gloves, cleaning supplies, beverages, toiletries, energy bars and flashlights. An earlier AmeriCares truckload of similar supplies was distributed in Harlan County after flooding swept that area in March. John Thompson, an administrator of the Christian Appalachia Project, the AmeriCares partner in Kentucky, said the shipments have helped to fulfill a desperate need for many in the state.
