An "Evening with the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale" at the Stamford Rich Forum in Connecticut April 29 has been organized as part of the

year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of AmeriCares, the humanitarian aid and international disaster relief organization.

The conductor is Leighton Lawrence Smith, a Yale professor of conducting and the musical director of the Yale Philharmonia, regarded as one of America's finest school ensembles. Many of its graduates play in the nation's leading professional orchestras.

Fred and Joan Weisman of Stamford are funding the evening. They have been supporters of AmeriCares for more than 10 years. The program, starting at 8 p.m., includes the work of Ravel, Beethoven, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. Tickets, $25 and $35, are available by calling Debra Phillips at AmeriCares at 800 486-HELP.

In addition to responding to emergency needs for people around the world without regard to race, creed or political persuasion, AmeriCares provides long-term healthcare programs and, in Connecticut, free healthcare clinics for the uninsured.
