AmeriCares Partners with Mayor Giuliani in Distributing $4 Million From Heroes' FundAmeriCares Foundation 100% of money to go to victims' families New Canaan, CT [December 13, 2001] – AmeriCares, the non-profit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, has announced that the first installment of its Heroes' Fund has been distributed to the immediate families of the uniformed officials who perished on September 11th. AmeriCares transferred the administrative responsibilities of the distribution to Mayor Giuliani's Twin Towers Fund, with a guarantee from the Mayor that 100% of the money will be going to the victims' families. Not one penny was taken out for administrative purposes. AmeriCares secured PricewaterhouseCoopers to audit the process, to ensure that the transaction was completed in an accurate and expedient fashion. "I am so grateful to AmeriCares and its many donors. AmeriCares' generosity to the families of New York City's heroes will never be forgotten," said Mayor Giuliani. "These brave men and women lost their lives so that others could live. AmeriCares is honored to have collected funds on their behalf," stated Bob Macauley, Founder and Chairman of AmeriCares. "We hope that this money will aid in covering some of the financial expenses that will continue to burden the surviving families for the months and years to come." The $4 million disbursement is the first of three installments of funds that will be transferred to The Twin Towers Fund. As the Heroes' Fund will be closing on January 31, 2002, all monies from the Heroes' Fund will be distributed by early February of next year. AmeriCares is the nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs – and supports long-term healthcare programs – for people around the world, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion. Since its inception in 1982, AmeriCares has delivered over $2.9 billion in aid to 137 nations worldwide.
