AmeriCares Accepts $1,000,000 Donation From Founders

New Canaan, CT - September 13, 2001 - AmeriCares, the national and international disaster relief organization, announced today that it has set up a fund for the spouses and children of those New York City uniformed Firefighters, Police Officers, and uniformed Port Authority employees, who have perished in Tuesday's terrible tragedy.

The "Heroes' Fund" has been established due to the enormous outpouring of support from people all over the country wanting to assist the families of those who perished in the line of duty.

"I want the families of these true heroes to know that America Cares," stated Robert C. Macauley, Founder and Chairman of AmeriCares. "My family and I are honored to offer $1,000,000 to these families through the AmeriCares 'Heroes' Fund."

Donors wishing to make contributions to AmeriCares' "Heroes' Fund" can log onto AmeriCares' web site at www.americares.org or call 1.800.486.HELP. One hundred percent of all the donations to AmeriCares' "Heroes' Fund" will be distributed to the immediate families of the New York City uniformed firefighters, police officers and uniformed Port Authority employees, who have perished in Tuesday's terrible tragedy.
