AmeriCares to Deliver Disaster Aid to Flood-Ravaged CambodiaAmeriCares Foundation Please include AmeriCares in your "How to Help Box" AmeriCares, the international and national disaster relief organization, announced today it is organizing an emergency response plan to assist the flood victims of Cambodia. Relief items will include essential drugs and other medicines, plastic sheeting, antibiotics, bandages, analgesics, nutritional products as well as hospital supplies. Cambodia has been struck by the worst floods along the Mekong Delta since 1961. Approximately 176,000 Cambodians have fled their homes to escape the floods that have killed several hundred people across South East Asia and caused more than $50 million in property damage with thousands of acres of rice crops destroyed. All those made homeless by the floods will need food and medical attention for weeks to come. In addition to the fact that people are living in cramped and unhealthy conditions means the spread of disease is almost inevitable. The economic consequences of this year's floods will be felt for some time to come. Parts of Cambodia normally experience flooding during August and September, but early flooding in July this year has caused a state of emergency in most of Cambodia's eastern provinces.
