AmeriCares, the international and national disaster relief organization, proudly announced today that Northwest Airlines and American Home Products are the Honorees of its 18th annual benefit gala on May 16th at the historical Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush and AmeriCares Founders Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Macauley will be the evening's hosts, leading the tribute to American Home Products and Northwest Airlines for their consistent support of AmeriCares.

Over the past fourteen years, American Home Products has been extremely generous to AmeriCares, donating over $31,000,000 worth of medicines, medical supplies and nutritional supplements for its disaster relief efforts around the world. American Home Products has played a vital role in many of AmeriCares relief missions, from the tragic flight of the Albanian refugees to the recent flood victims of Mozambique.

AmeriCares' eight year partnership with Northwest Airlines has enabled AmeriCares to deliver over $24,000,000 worth of medicines and relief supplies to those suffering adversity. Most recently, AmeriCares and Northwest Airlines joined forces to deliver over 50,000 pounds of relief supplies to the victims of the earthquake in Taiwan.

American Home Products Corporation is one of the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical and health care products companies. It is a leader in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications. It is also a global leader in the biotechnology and animal health care industries, as well as a front-line manufacturer of vaccines and agricultural products.

Northwest Airlines is the world's fourth largest airline offering more than 2,600 daily departures with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo, Osaka and Amsterdam. With its travel partners, Northwest serves more than 750 cities in 120 countries on 6 continents. Based on statistics compiled by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Northwest was the most-on-time U.S. airline among the seven largest network carriers for the period 1990-1999.
