AmeriCares Free Clinics Appoint Program Director for Mobile Clinic in Southeastern CTAmeriCares Foundation The AmeriCares Free Clinics, Inc, has announced the appointment of Susan J. Hewes as the Program Director of the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Southeastern Connecticut. Susan Hewes graduated from UCLA with a masters degree in Public Health. She has over twenty years of expertise in health care programs and management. Hewes spent over seven years in Guatemala directing a nationwide initiative to improve the quality and access to maternal and child health care services through the provision of grants, technical assistance and grantee training. Most recently, Ms. Hewes was working with the Windham Even Start Program, managing families at high social risk and providing both parental education and social service support. As the director of the Free Clinic, she will be responsible for all day to day operations, administration, data management, coordination of the medical volunteers, fundraising and public relations. The Free Clinic, housed in a 40 foot mobile unit, provides free medical care to uninsured and underinsured residents of Southeastern Connecticut. The mobile clinic provides weekly sessions at predetermined sites in Groton, New London and Norwich. The Director, Manager of Patient Services, and a volunteer team of doctors and nurses staff the facility. The clinic attends the working poor, those who do not have private insurance or are not eligible for public assistance. AmeriCares Free Clinics accepts only private funding, and all donations designated for the Southeastern Connecticut Mobile Clinic will help defray the cost of delivering healthcare to under and uninsured individuals in this area.
