Edwin J. Sayres, President of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Annemarie Lucas, ASPCA Special Investigator and star of Animal Precinct, Animal Planet's hit television show, are hosting a brunch on Sunday, October 19 at Nanina's In The Park in Belleville, New Jersey. New Jersey residents will have an opportunity to learn more about ASPCA local and national programs and the work of their 16 humane law enforcement agents who are devoted to fighting animal cruelty in New York.

In 2002, the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) department investigated close to 4,000 cases of suspected animal cruelty in New York City's five boroughs. Back for a third season, Animal Precinct, an award-winning reality series, chronicles the drama, emotion, triumph and tragedy of the work of the only law enforcement group in New York solely dedicated to investigating crimes against the city's animal population. Their cases include the infiltration and destruction of dog fighting rings, the closing down of cockfighting facilities and the arrests of perpetrators who are starving and abusing their animals. To do their jobs effectively, the agents must combine their investigative skills, compassion, tact and street smarts while dealing with people who are often uncooperative, unsympathetic and, at times, violent. The show airs every Monday at 10:00 p.m. ET on Animal Planet.

Since 1866, the ASPCA has been committed to alleviating pain, fear and suffering in all animals. The ASPCA is the oldest humane organization in the Western Hemisphere and was founded by Henry Bergh, a philanthropist who recognized the inhumane treatment suffered by many animals in our society. With over 740,000 members, the spirit of Henry Bergh lives on today at the ASPCA. Some of its national and local programs include: humane education in elementary and secondary schools, animal cruelty law enforcement in New York State and legislative efforts to secure laws that better protect animals. At the ASPCA's headquarters in New York City, facilities include a full-service veterinary hospital and animal placement and community outreach programs.
