ASPCA Supports WSPA's Plan To Help Animals In Iraq

Agency to provide short-term relief to the animals at Baghdad zoo.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) supports the animal relief efforts that The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has planned to assist the animals in Iraq and the Middle East region.

WSPA and its member societies, such as the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (SPANA) have drawn up contingency plans and are ready to deal with the impact the war has had on the animals in that region. Appropriate emergency relief will include the provisions of food, first aid, supplies of medicine and equipment to veterinary authorities. Additional training of local veterinarians may also be necessary. Currently, WSPA has arranged to provide short-term relief to the animals at the Baghdad zoo in order to sustain them until they are allowed to enter the country. SPANA has several mobile veterinary clinics, staffed by local personnel in Jordan and Syria, which could be utilized in the event that a mercy mission is necessary for the animals.

WSPA has set up a fund to raise money to help with the rescue and care of the animals that are suffering in Iraq and throughout the Middle East. The ASPCA encourages the public to make a donation to help their cause.
