ASPCA Provides Update On Bronx Fox Terrier InvestigationAmerican Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals As case is pending funding is still needed to provide care for the 49 rescued dogs The ASPCA has received many inquires about the status of the 49 fox terriers that were rescued from a location in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx on March 18th. ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement agents found all of the dogs living in deplorable conditions in the basement of a home located at 3160 Ampere Avenue; their caretaker, Charles Horton was arrested on 49 counts of animal cruelty. The dogs ranging in age from young puppies to older adults were transferred to the ASPCA. "Currently there is a criminal case pending against Mr. Horton," said acting ASPCA President, Stephen Musso. "In addition, we are pursuing our rights under law to ensure that the dogs are being taken care of both from a veterinary and shelter standpoint as is the owner's obligation. If the owner does not agree to care for the dogs we will avail ourselves of our rights under law and become the lawful owners." Upon arrival, all of the dogs required veterinary care and grooming. The ASPCA has also hired additional staff solely responsible for attending to the dogs' needs. "We are grateful for the $4,400 that has been raised since we established a separate fund for the care of the dogs however, we estimate that the total cost will run in-between $40,000-$50,000," added Musso.
