Independence Day Comes Early For Rescued Fox TerriersAmerican Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ASPCA celebrates legal victory as dogs are prepared for adoption. Today, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is thrilled to announce their victory in winning custody of 48 of the 49 wirehaired fox terriers (and five newborn puppies) who were rescued from a Bronx basement in March. Charles Horton was arrested under suspicion of animal cruelty on March 18, 2003 by an ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement agent and has since failed to post the court ordered security bond in the amount of $200,000; the accumulated cost the ASPCA has incurred to care for the dogs. Mr. Horton's criminal case is scheduled to begin in August. The dogs, ranging in ages, will be available in the next several weeks for adoption once they are all spayed and neutered. Interested adopters may fill out an application by visiting the ASPCA or by logging onto www.aspca.org.
